A Safe Place for Teens Who Are Cutting or Running Away

It's a helpless feeling to watch your teenagers harm themselves. You may feel powerless to stop them from cutting themselves or running away, and you may not know what you can do to help.

If your teenagers are cutting or causing other types of self-inflicted injuries, they are doing so either because they are suffering from emotional pain (whereby the cutting becomes an habitual way to release that pain and get "relief") or are succumbing to negative influence by their peers or the Internet (cutting can sometimes be "cool" to do and "contagious" amongst teens).

For some, self-harming behaviors can indicate an emerging personality disorder that requires specialized, competent care.

If your teenagers are running away, you know they can be unpredictable. You may not know where they have gone, or when they are coming back. Their impulsivity or desire to avoid their problems and issues results an increased risk of running away from home or from a less secure treatment setting.

We Can Help Your Teens Stop Harming Themselves

Island View Residential Treatment Center understands how difficult it is for you to see your teenagers harm themselves, and we can help.

At Island View, we will provide your children a safe place to learn alternate coping skills, learn about and manage their emotions, and implement new tools for handling their stress, anxiety and fears. We do this in a structured and supportive environment in which your teenagers can receive immediate medical care as they mature, learn and navigate new changes.

Island View has the ability to treat teenagers who are cutting or running away in a way other adolescent treatment facilities can't. Because of our structured schedule, high student-to-staff ratio, onsite medical professionals - including psychiatrists, physician extenders (physician assistants and nurse practitioners), registered nurses, licensed therapists, substance abuse counselors and trained residential staff - we are able to eliminate the variables associated with some residential treatment placements.

Seasoned clinical and professional medical help in a safe and secure setting has been an essential component of our program model since our inception in 1994.

As adolescents mature and adjust to the Island View setting north of Salt Lake City, therapists and other staff constantly update their individualized treatment plan. Throughout the average eight to10 months our residents are with us, their treatment plans are constantly updated, progress is noted and adjustments are made – all with collaboration between our staff, the resident and the family.

Interventions and strategies for growth are implemented in a non-harmful and respectful way. Here, our goal is to build a healthy future by teaching new skills, reintegrating the family, practicing self-discipline and emotional awareness, discovering a passion and achieving academic success.

We know you feel helpless about your teenagers' behaviors, but we can help them make long-lasting changes that will reduce their desire to cut or run away. For more information, call our toll-free admissions line at (866) 952-7930.
