Much of an adolescent's self-image is intertwined with his or her perception of the physical self. To gain self-confidence through physical activity and recreation enhances the overall well-being of the Island View resident. Mixing leisure and recreational activities with clinical and scholastic elements of treatment is an essential ingredient for positive development.
Island View’s recreational activity program, is designed to promote trust of self and others, willingness to take personal risks, positive self-expression, healthy personal interests and self-confidence.
The Cardiovascular fitness program facilitated by trained instructors which includes ongoing tracking of fitness levels through the use of heart rate monitors, pre and post strength and flexibility testing, and ongoing weight and body fat monitoring helps improve strength, conditioning, and coordination skills. Island View provides intramural team sports teach cooperative interaction.
Island View provides weekly opportunities for community service and participation in community based activities such as movie going, bowling, swimming, and other “normal” outlets so as to reengage residents with healthy alternatives to their prior activities which may have been limited to antisocial pursuits, or overly isolating behaviors such as chat rooms, video games, etc.
