The aim of Island View is to fully understand each child and his or her psychosocial make-up. A properly and completely understood problem stands a better chance of being solved than one that lingers in obscurity.
For this reason each resident admitted to Island View receives the following assessment:

- psychiatric evaluation
- psychosocial evaluation
- educational assessment
- nutritional screening
- leisure skill and recreational activity assessment
- alcohol and chemical dependency assessment
- complete physical and medical history evaluation
The findings of these assessments provide the prescription for the individualized treatment plan. As the individual needs of the child change and/or evolve, re-assessments are conducted to guide the treatment plan.
Assisting in this evaluation and re-evaluation process are other support personnel, including pediatricians, nurses, dieticians, psychologists, neuro-psychologists and learning specialists. Other clinical consultation services are available from a host of private practitioners, hospitals and public health agencies.
